Eastern Theatre
Define and describe the powers fighting on the Eastern theatre. What were some similarities and differences between battles on the Western and Eastern fronts? Be specific in your answer.
While Germany was attempting to hold its own on the western front against British and French Forces, Russia was attacking the Germans and Austrians on the Eastern Front. The Russian Front suffered more than 3 million casualties! Every nation that participated in the Eastern front lost its current form of government by the end of WW1. Both sides were well equipped for the war, contrary to popular belief. The Russians' weaponry continued to be standard issue until about the 1980s. However, the poor battle tactics of the Russians is what caused them to withdraw from WW1 early (also the fact that, you know, they didn't actually have a government then). Russia's losses on the Eastern front allowed Germany to focus more troops on the West. This is incidentally one of the reasons the US decided to fight in World War One as well.
